Introduction

AFE7903 is a high-performance, wideband, multi-channel transceiver integrating two RF-sampling transmit chains and two RF-sampling receive chains. The device operates at frequencies up to 7.4 GHz, supporting direct RF sampling in the HF, VHF, UHF, L, S, and C band frequency ranges without requiring additional frequency conversion stages. Improvements in density and flexibility enable support for high-channel-count, multi-mission systems. The TX signal path supports interpolation and digital upconversion options, providing signal bandwidths up to 400 MHz. The DUC output drives a 12 GSPS DAC, with mixed-mode output options enhancing operation in the second Nyquist zone. The DAC output includes a variable gain amplifier (TX DSA) with a 40 dB range and 1 dB analog and 0.125 dB digital step sizes. Each receiver chain includes a 25 dB range DSA followed by a 3 GSPS ADC. Each receiver channel features an analog peak power detector and various digital power detectors to facilitate implementation of external or internal autonomous AGC, along with an RF overload detector for device reliability protection. Flexible decimation options provide data bandwidth optimization up to 400 MHz (for two RX channels). The device incorporates a SYSREF timing detector for optimizing the SYSREF input timing relative to the device clock.
