Introduction

This active splitter accepts a balanced RF input in the frequency range of 50 MHz to 1.1 GHz and provides three balanced RF outputs with minimal signal quality degradation. This single-package surface-mount device uses a high-linearity, low-noise amplification stage to amplify the input signal and couples the amplified signal to three independent output paths to drive video tuner inputs. Each output path includes independent automatic gain control. Overall linearity for each tuner path is maintained over a wide AGC range, ensuring low distortion effects on each output signal. The active splitter is designed to operate from a single +5V supply and is implemented using GaAs MESFET technology. Its surface-mount package makes it ideally suited for today's multi-tuner cable TV set-top boxes.
