This Function Image implements a half-duplex 4FSK modem together with the majority of the DMR air interface physical layer and data link layer functionality. Combined with a suitable host and RF transceiver, it enables the realisation of a compact, low-cost, low-power digital Professional Mobile Radio compliant with ETSI DMR standard TS 102 361-1. Legacy analogue modes can be supported by reloading the device as a 7241/7341FI-1. The CMX7241 and CMX7341 are functionally identical; the hardware difference between the two lies in the input stage: the CMX7241 has a single-ended input, while the CMX7341 is the differential input version, allowing direct connection to a CMX994. The CMX7341 uses two serial ports, one for controlling a CMX994A in C-BUS mode and a second operating in SPI master mode to provide an audio codec interface for an external vocoder. The embedded functionality of the 7241/7341FI-2 autonomously manages voice and data systems, including routing audio signals to and from the vocoder via the auxiliary SPI/C-BUS interface, minimising interaction with the host microcontroller to achieve the lowest possible operating power consumption and longest battery life for a DMR radio. From version 7241/7341FI-2.3.0.0 onwards, analogue FM voice and signalling support is provided to facilitate seamless migration from, or to allow backwards compatibility with, legacy analogue radio modes. The device allows designers to choose between a traditional limiter/discriminator receiver architecture and an I/Q-based direct conversion architecture, the latter taking advantage of built-in support for the CMX994A direct conversion receiver. The device utilises proprietary FirmASIC component technology. The on-chip subsystem is configured by a Function Image: a data file uploaded during device initialisation that defines the device's functionality and feature set. The Function Image can be loaded from the host microcontroller via the built-in C-BUS serial interface. The device's functionality and features may be enhanced through future Function Image releases, facilitating field upgrades. Additional features include two auxiliary ADCs with four selectable inputs and four auxiliary DAC interfaces. The device incorporates flexible power-saving modes.
