Introduction

This device implements a half-duplex 4FSK modem and the majority of the dPMR air interface, data link, and call control layer functions. Combined with a suitable host processor and a limiter/discriminator-based RF transceiver, it enables a compact, low-cost, low-power digital Professional Mobile Radio compliant with ETSI dPMR standard TS 102 490. The CMX7131/CMX7141 also supports analog/digital PMR dual-mode operation. Both ISF and CSF configurations are supported, including built-in support for BCD addressing mode. Its embedded functionality autonomously manages voice and data systems, including control of CMX6x8 vocoders via an auxiliary SPI/C-BUS interface, minimizing interaction with the host microcontroller to achieve the lowest operating power consumption and extend dPMR radio battery life. The device also provides audio codec functionality for vocoders under direct host control. The device employs proprietary FirmASIC component technology. On-chip subsystems are configured via a Feature Image — a data file uploaded during device initialization that defines the device's functionality and feature set. The Feature Image can be automatically loaded from external serial memory or a host microcontroller via the built-in C-BUS serial interface. Device functionality and features can be enhanced through subsequent Feature Image releases, facilitating field upgrades. This document specifically refers to features provided by Feature Image version 1.x. Additional features include two auxiliary ADCs (with four selectable inputs) and four auxiliary DAC interfaces (with an optional RAMDAC on the first DAC output to facilitate transmitter power ramp control). Furthermore, the CMX7131 incorporates two on-chip RF synthesizers for convenient receive/transmit frequency switching. The CMX7141 is functionally identical to the CMX7131, except that the two on-chip RF synthesizers are removed, enabling it to be offered in a smaller package. The device features flexible power-saving modes and is available in both LQFP and VQFN packages.
