Introduction

The ADMV2101 is a low-noise divide-by-4 static frequency divider fabricated in InGaP GaAs HBT technology, housed in an ultra-compact surface-mount MSOP8 plastic package. The device operates from a single +3V DC supply with an input frequency range from DC (square wave input required) to 4 GHz. Single-ended inputs and outputs reduce component count and cost. The low additive single-sideband phase noise of -150 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset helps users maintain excellent system noise performance. Electrical specifications are characterized at TA = +25°C, 50-ohm system, VCC = +3V DC ±5%. The divider operates down to DC levels; square wave input is required below 200 MHz. For stable operation in the absence of an input signal, refer to the relevant application note. DC-blocking capacitors are required at the RF input and output ports; their values should be selected based on the minimum operating frequency. The device is ESD-sensitive and handling precautions must be observed. The typical supply current vs. VCC relationship is shown in the figure; the divider operates across the full voltage range indicated.
