Introduction

THCS254 is a transceiver chip integrating a serializer and deserializer, which aggregates and converts 20-bit GPIO and two-wire serial interface signals into two pairs of differential signals for transmission and reception. The chip supports both synchronous and asynchronous operating modes. In synchronous mode, the uplink and downlink high-speed transmission signals are driven synchronously by a reference clock signal on the master chip side. In asynchronous mode, the uplink and downlink high-speed transmission signals are driven asynchronously by the clock signals on both the master and slave chip sides. The reference clock can be selected from either an internal OSC clock or an external input clock. Internal registers are accessible via the two-wire serial interface, allowing customization of the 20-bit GPIO direction and output buffer type for each pin. The 8B10B encoding/decoding employed by the chip provides highly robust, DC-balanced signals and facilitates connection to optical/wireless communication devices. The built-in adaptive equalizer supports flexible cable selection, while the CML driver with pre-emphasis enables longer cable transmission.
