Introduction

The HMC7447 is a high-performance E-band MMIC power detector designed to operate over the 71 to 86 GHz frequency range. This power detector delivers a linear output voltage over an input power range of -0.5 to +23.5 dBm, with low insertion loss of 0.45 dB and a typical input return loss of only 19.5 dB. The detector is well-suited for monitoring transmitter operation or implementing closed-loop transmitter output power control, offering excellent sensitivity and flat frequency response with a variation of only ±0.2 dB across the 71 to 76 GHz and 81 to 86 GHz bands. The HMC7447 power detector also provides outstanding repeatability and performance across varying temperatures and output load conditions. It can be connected to an op-amp circuit to achieve a slope of 20 mV/dB at the minimum detector input power level. All data was measured with the die mounted in a 50-ohm test fixture and connected via dual bond wires with a maximum length of 0.2 mm (8 mils) and a diameter of 0.025 mm (1 mil).
