Introduction

The HMC600LP4(E) logarithmic detector/controller converts an RF signal at its input into a proportional DC voltage output. The HMC600LP4(E) employs a successive compression topology to provide extremely high dynamic range and conversion accuracy over a wide input frequency range. As input power increases, individual amplifiers are driven into saturation sequentially, thereby accurately approximating a logarithmic function. The outputs of a series of square-law detectors are summed, converted to the voltage domain, and buffered to drive the LOGOUT output. In detector mode, when the LOGOUT pin is shorted to the VSET input, a nominal logarithmic slope of 19mV/dB and an intercept of -95 dBm are provided. The HMC600LP4(E) can also be used in controller mode by applying an external voltage to the VSET pin to create an AGC or APC feedback loop.
