Introduction

The PVR33 series AC/DC relay is a bipolar, normally open solid-state relay designed to replace electromechanical relays in general-purpose analog signal switching applications. It uses International Rectifier's HEXFET power MOSFETs as output switches, driven by an integrated circuit photovoltaic generator of novel construction. The output switch is controlled by radiation from a GaAlAs LED, which is optically isolated from the photovoltaic generator.

The PVR33 series overcomes the limitations of conventional electromechanical and reed relays while offering the advantages of solid-state relays, including long service life, fast operating speed, low pull-in power, no contact bounce, low thermal offset voltage, and compact packaging. These advantages enable product improvements and design innovations across many applications, such as process control, multiplexing, automated test equipment, and data acquisition.

The PVR33 can switch analog signals ranging from thermocouple-level up to 300V peak AC or DC polarity. It readily handles signal frequencies in the RF range and supports switching rates up to 350Hz. The exceptionally low thermally generated offset voltage improves measurement accuracy.

These relays are available in a 16-pin molded DIP package with through-hole pins, supplied in plastic transport tubes.
