Introduction

The CPC1215 is a voltage-controlled, single-pole, normally open (1-Form-A) optically coupled solid state relay in a 4-pin DIP package. The patented OptoMOS architecture from IXYS Integrated Circuits Division provides the optical coupling technology needed to efficiently drive the output MOSFET switch while delivering a 3750Vrms input-to-output isolation barrier. Control of the isolated output is achieved via a high-efficiency infrared LED on the input side; an internal resistor in series with the LED enables voltage-controlled operation of the input. Because the input is solid-state, there is no need for snubber circuits or catch diodes to suppress the inductive flyback transients typically associated with electromagnetic relay coils.
