Introduction

The Matrix Orbital Economy Series offers a variety of intelligent alphanumeric LCD and vacuum fluorescent displays designed to reduce development time by providing an immediate solution for any project. At the heart of this series is the well-designed X board. Available in three distinct versions, the X board can communicate with a wide range of host controllers. The MOI model provides communication speeds of up to 100kbps via a simple two-wire I²C interface. The serial MOS version offers speeds of 9.6kbps or 19.2kbps with standard RS232 or TTL logic levels, selectable via simple hardware jumpers. Finally, the MOU model provides fast and convenient USB connectivity. A straightforward command structure allows easy software control of settings such as backlight brightness and screen contrast. Onboard memory supports up to 40 custom characters that can be stored on the device and used for custom startup screens, bar graphs, or larger numerals. Additionally, three general-purpose outputs provide simple switchable 5-volt power. The versatile X board combines all of the above features and is available in parallel screen configurations ranging from 8 to 80 characters in multiple colors, making it suitable for virtually any application.
