Introduction

The SVF series infrared emitters are designed as pulsed-modulatable blackbody radiation sources. The radiating element consists of an ultra-thin metal foil configured to efficiently direct radiation from both sides of the heated foil along the optical axis out of the package. The foil material has a typical emissivity of 0.88, with a spectral distribution closely approximating that of a blackbody source. This emitter series is designed to operate at a rated maximum foil temperature of 1000 K. Standard products are available in hermetically sealed TO-5 or TO-8 packages with a variety of foil thickness and width options. Multiple standard window materials are available to tailor the output to specific target wavelength ranges. An integrated reflector option is available for this emitter series. A standard parabolic reflector provides a near-collimated, uniform radiation output. In addition, a variety of elliptical reflectors with different focal lengths are available for fiber coupling and other applications.
