Introduction

These standard solid-state displays feature 7.4 mm (0.29 inch) dot matrix characters and integrate on-chip ICs with data memory latches/decoders and LED drivers, housed in glass/ceramic packages. The hermetically sealed HDSP-078x, -079x/-088x displays use solder glass frit sealing. HDSP-098X displays use epoxy glass-ceramic sealing. Numeric devices decode positive BCD logic into characters "0–9", the "−" symbol, decimal point, and test patterns. Hexadecimal devices decode positive BCD logic into 16 characters "0–9, A–F". Hexadecimal devices provide an input to blank the display (all LEDs off) without losing memory contents. Over-range devices display "±1" and a right-hand decimal point, typically driven by external switching transistors.
