The upgraded version of smart RGB LEDs is the smart RGB+White LED. These NeoPixel ring lights now contain four LEDs (red, green, blue, and white) for outstanding lighting effects, arranged in a circular configuration.
This is a natural white RGBW NeoPixel ring with 24 LEDs. The ring has an outer diameter of 2.58 inches (65.5mm). These rings can be "cascaded" — connect the output pin of one to the input pin of another. Only a single microcontroller pin is needed to control all cascaded rings. Each LED is individually addressable, as the driver IC is built directly into the LED. Each LED features approximately 18mA constant-current drive, so color remains highly consistent even with voltage variations, and no external ballast resistors are required, enabling a more compact design. Simply power the entire ring with 5VDC.
NeoPixel LEDs are "split" — one half is a familiar RGB LED, and the other half is a white LED with yellow phosphor. When unlit, it resembles an egg yolk. When illuminated, these LEDs are extremely bright, with each channel controllable via 8-bit PWM (8 bits × 4 channels = 32-bit color overall). Perfect for adding plenty of colorful and white light to your project.
NeoPixel LEDs use the 800 KHz protocol, requiring specific timing. On NeoPixels, the PWM frequency is approximately 400 Hz, which works well, but flickering may be noticeable if the LEDs are in motion. In contrast, DotStars operate at a PWM frequency of 20 KHz, so no pixelation is visible even when moving the LEDs, and blending effects are very smooth.
NeoPixels are 5050-size LEDs with an embedded microcontroller. You can set the brightness and color of each red/green/blue/white LED with 8-bit PWM precision (32-bit color per pixel). The LEDs are controlled by a shift register using only a single digital output pin to send data. PWM is built into each LED chip, so once the color is set, you can stop communicating with the ring and it will continue to PWM all LEDs for you.
Comes with a detailed usage guide containing everything needed to use NeoPixels in any shape and size. Includes ready-to-use libraries and example code for Arduino UNO/Duemilanove/Diecimila, Flora/Micro/Leonardo, Trinket/Gemma, Arduino Due, and Arduino Mega/ADK.
Product is a single ring containing 24 pre-assembled and tested individually addressable RGB LEDs.
