This is the largest NeoPixel ring board available to date. Four of these boards combine to form a massive ring containing 60 ultra-bright smart LED NeoPixels arranged in a 6.2-inch diameter circle. Each order includes only a quarter-ring board. Four boards are required to complete a full ring. You will also need to solder them together, so to achieve a complete 60-LED ring, purchase four and assemble by soldering.
These ring boards are "chainable" — connect the output pin of one board to the input pin of the next. All chained boards can be controlled using just a single microcontroller pin. Each LED is individually addressable, as the driver IC is integrated inside the LED itself. Each LED features approximately 18mA constant-current drive, so colors remain highly consistent even with voltage variations, and no external choke resistors are needed, keeping the design clean. Power the entire system with 5VDC.
Using a single data line, the protocol is extremely timing-sensitive. Because of this strict timing requirement, a real-time microcontroller is required, such as AVR, Arduino, PIC, mbed, etc. It cannot be used with Linux-based single-board computers or interpreted microcontrollers such as netduino or Basic Stamp. Our excellent Neopixel library for Arduino supports these LEDs.
Due to hand-tuned assembly code, the library is only compatible with AVR cores, though others may have ported the driver code for this chip — please search accordingly. Requires an 8MHz or faster processor.
Includes one assembled and tested quarter-ring board with 15 individually addressable RGB LEDs. We recommend purchasing four to build a complete circle, as this product is only one quarter of the circle.
