Introduction

NeoPixel LEDs are great, but fall short in certain situations — such as interfacing with specialty microcontrollers that can't meet their strict timing requirements, or use in persistence-of-vision displays with fast movement. Adafruit DotStar LEDs address these shortcomings with high-speed PWM and an easy-to-drive two-wire interface. DotStar and NeoPixel share the same fundamental concept — a continuous, individually addressable RGB LED strip driven by a microcontroller — but differ in implementation, each with its own trade-offs. DotStar products come in a wide range of form factors, from individual small pixels to large matrices, as well as strips, FeatherWings, and more.
