Introduction

Character Display Module C162BXBSYLY6WT Overview: 16x2 characters, STN, yellow background, LED backlight (yellow/green), bottom viewing angle, wide temperature range, transflective (positive), RoHS compliant. The chip supports two interface types with MPU: 4-bit bus and 8-bit bus, selected via the DL bit in the instruction register. When the busy flag (BF) is "high," an internal operation is in progress and the next instruction cannot be accepted; BF can be read via the DB7 pin when RS = low and R/W = high (read instruction operation). The address counter (AC) stores the DDRAM/CGRAM address transferred from IR; after a read or write operation to DDRAM/CGRAM, AC automatically increments or decrements by 1. DDRAM stores up to 80×8 bits (80 characters) of display data, with addresses set in hexadecimal in the address counter (AC). CGROM contains 204 character patterns in 5×8 dot matrix and 32 character patterns in 5×10 dot matrix. CGRAM can store up to 8 user-defined characters in 5×8 dot matrix by writing font data to CGRAM. The cursor/blink control circuit controls the on/off state of the cursor/blink at the cursor position. The ST7066U performs internal operations by storing control information into IR or DR to overcome the speed difference between its internal clock and the MPU clock. Instructions are broadly divided into four categories: ST7066U function setting instructions, internal RAM address setting instructions, data transfer instructions with internal RAM, and other instructions.
