Introduction

The OPV322 is a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) in a dome lens pill package. VCSELs offer several advantages over infrared LEDs in sensing applications. These devices require significantly lower drive current to achieve the same output power as LEDs. This characteristic makes VCSELs suitable for low-power applications such as battery-powered devices. The dome lens package produces a narrow beam angle. Long-range applications can benefit from this feature, as secondary optical elements can be eliminated, thereby reducing total system cost. The OPV322 is optically and spectrally compatible with Optek's standard detector products, such as the OP600 series phototransistors, OP300 series photo Darlington transistors, and OP900 series photodiodes.
