Introduction

IF-E93 is a high-output, high-speed green LED in a "connectorless" plastic optical fiber package. The output spectrum of the green LED is generated by a GaN die with a peak wavelength of 522 nm, ideally matched to the lowest attenuation window of PMMA plastic core optical fiber. The device package features an internal LED microlens, and the PBT plastic housing ensures efficient optical coupling with standard 1000 μm core plastic optical fiber cables. The high output and fast transition times of the IF-E93 make it suitable for low-cost digital data links. Compared to 0.16 dB/m for commonly used 650 nm LEDs, attenuation is less than 0.1 dB/m when coupled with PMMA plastic optical fiber. Using standard 1 mm core plastic optical fiber, the IF-E93 LED can transmit over 150 meters at a data rate of 5 Mbps. The drive circuit design is simpler than that required for laser diodes, making the IF-E93 a high-quality, low-cost alternative in a wide range of analog and digital applications.
