Introduction

FOD8318 is an advanced 2.5A output current IGBT gate drive optocoupler capable of driving most 1200V/150A IGBTs. It is ideally suited for fast switching of power IGBTs and MOSFETs in motor control, inverter applications, and high-performance power systems. The device consists of an integrated gate drive optocoupler featuring a low Rps(ON) CMOS transistor for rail-to-rail IGBT driving, with integrated high-speed isolated feedback for fault detection. The FOD8318 incorporates an active Miller clamp function to turn off the IGBT under high dv/dt conditions without requiring a negative supply voltage. It provides the critical protection functions needed to prevent fault conditions that lead to destructive IGBT thermal runaway.

The device employs onsemi's proprietary Optoplanar coplanar packaging technology and optimized IC design to achieve high noise immunity, characterized by high common-mode rejection ratio and power supply rejection ratio specifications.

The device is housed in a compact 16-pin small outline plastic package, meeting 8mm creepage distance and clearance requirements.
