Introduction

FDA217 is a dual photovoltaic MOSFET driver. Each individual driver consists of an LED optically coupled to a photodiode array. The driver output is controlled by a high-efficiency infrared LED on the input side. When input current is applied to the LED, the emitted light activates the photodiode array, generating a voltage at the output. The photodiode array produces a floating power supply with sufficient voltage and current to drive high-power MOSFET transistors. Each photodiode array incorporates an integrated turn-off circuit that discharges the external MOSFET gate when the LED current is removed, eliminating the need for external components to facilitate discharge. The optical coupling technology provides 3750Vrms input-to-output isolation. The FDA217 is ideal for discrete solid-state relay designs and other isolated switching applications.
