Introduction

The HCPL-515x contains a GaAsP LED optically coupled to an integrated circuit with a power output stage. The device is ideally suited for driving power IGBTs and MOSFETs used in motor control inverter applications. The high operating voltage range of the output stage provides the drive voltage required for gating devices. The voltage and current provided by this optocoupler make it ideal for directly driving IGBTs rated up to 1200V/50A. For higher-rated IGBTs, the HCPL-515x can be used to drive a discrete power stage that drives the IGBT gate.
