Introduction

The Si826x isolators are pin-compatible, drop-in replacement upgrades for popular optocoupled gate drivers such as the 0.6 A ACPL-0302/3020, 2.5 A HCPL-3120/ACPL-3130, HCNW3120/3130, and similar optical drivers. These devices are ideal for driving power MOSFETs and IGBTs widely used in various inverter and motor control applications. The Si826x isolated gate drivers employ Skyworks Solutions' proprietary silicon isolation technology, supporting withstand voltages up to 5.0 kV_RMS per UL1577 and 10 kV surge protection per VDE 0884-10. Compared to optocoupled gate drivers, this technology delivers higher performance, reduced variation due to temperature and aging, tighter device-to-device matching, and superior common-mode rejection. Although the input circuit emulates LED characteristics, less drive current is required, improving efficiency. Propagation delay is independent of input drive current, enabling consistently short propagation times, tighter device-to-device variation, and greater input circuit design flexibility. As a result, the Si826x family offers significantly longer service life and higher reliability compared to optocoupled gate drivers. Automotive-grade versions are available for certain part numbers. These products utilize automotive-specific processes at every step of manufacturing to ensure the robustness and low defect rates required for automotive applications.
