Introduction

The STGAP4S is a galvanically isolated single gate driver for IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs, featuring advanced protection, configuration, and diagnostic functions. The STGAP4S architecture uses true galvanic isolation to separate the channel gate drive from the control and low-voltage interface circuitry. The unique output architecture allows the use of an external MOSFET push-pull stage, providing flexibility in current capability design and facilitating parallel operation of multiple power switches. The two pre-driver outputs feature current capability and output voltage swing optimized for this topology, and support the use of negative gate drive supplies. An integrated isolated flyback power supply controller enables generation of positive and negative gate driver voltages with minimal external components, saving PCB space. Protection features include a Miller clamp driver, desaturation and overcurrent detection, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and overvoltage lockout (OVLO), facilitating the design of high-reliability systems. A temperature sensor is integrated in the driver. An open-drain diagnostic output is provided, and detailed device status can be monitored via SPI. Parameters for each function can be programmed via SPI, making the device highly flexible and suitable for a wide range of applications.
