Introduction

The EiceDRIVER™ gate driver 1EDI3028AS is a high-voltage galvanically isolated IGBT driver designed for high-voltage automotive applications. The device is based on coreless transformer technology, providing 8 kV galvanic isolation between the low-voltage domain and high-voltage domain. The IC supports IGBTs up to 1200 V. The device features a robust output stage with peak currents up to 15 A, suitable for high-power switching. The split output stage allows independent gate resistors to achieve different switching turn-on and turn-off slew rates. The low-voltage domain supports 5 V and 3.3 V logic levels. On the high-voltage domain, it can directly drive the gate of an IGBT. A short propagation delay of only 60 ns and a minimum pulse width of 150 ns enable high switching frequencies with minimal PWM signal distortion. DESAT protection combined with a configurable external soft turn-off function prevents IGBT damage during short-circuit events. The integrated active Miller clamp stage supports currents up to 10 A, allowing IGBTs to operate with a unipolar power supply. The device features a 12-bit ADC for temperature measurement or DC bus measurement. Additionally, the DATA interface provides detailed fault diagnostics via PWM signals. The extensive integration of safety-related functions simplifies system design compliant with ASIL D. A safety input on the primary side controls the system transition to a safe state. Furthermore, the device provides a secondary-side active short-circuit pin to trigger a safe state from the secondary side.
