Introduction

The Si860x series isolators are single-package current isolation solutions for I2C and SMBus serial applications. Based on Skyworks' proprietary RF isolation technology, these devices offer shorter propagation delay, lower power consumption, smaller mounting footprint, and more stable operation over temperature and aging conditions compared to optocouplers or other digital isolators. All devices in the series include hot-swap protection, bidirectional SDA and/or SCL isolation channels with open-drain, 35 mA sink current capability, and maximum operating frequency up to 1.7 MHz. The 8-pin version (Si8600) supports bidirectional SDA and SCL isolation; the Si8602 supports bidirectional SDA and unidirectional SCL isolation; the 16-pin versions (Si8605, Si8606) feature two unidirectional isolation channels to support additional system signals such as interrupts or resets. All versions include protection circuitry to prevent data corruption when an unpowered device is inserted into a powered system. The small footprint, low mounting cost, low power consumption, and short propagation delay make the Si860x series the optimal solution for isolating I2C and SMBus serial interfaces. Certain part numbers are available as automotive-grade products, manufactured using automotive-specific processes at every step of the production flow to ensure the durability and low defect rates required for automotive applications.
