Introduction

The CA-IS398x series isolated 8-channel digital input products are optimized for industrial 24V digital input applications. All devices can be configured as Type 1, Type 2, or Type 3 inputs with only a few external components, and each channel is capable of both sinking and sourcing current. Based on Chipanalog's advanced capacitive isolation technology, the isolated channels offer an isolation rating of up to 2.5kV RMS and a typical common-mode transient immunity of ±300kV/μs (low-speed channels), providing high electromagnetic immunity, low propagation delay, and low jitter. CA-IS398x devices support a logic-side supply voltage range of 2.25V to 5.5V and require no field-side power supply. Logic output levels are independently set by the supply voltage, facilitating easy interfacing with 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5V controllers. The CA-IS3980S industrial interface serializer converts, conditions, and serializes eight 24V digital inputs into CMOS-compatible signals via the SPI port required by the microcontroller, while CA-IS398xP devices convert eight 24V industrial digital inputs into eight CMOS-compatible parallel outputs. All devices provide isolated digital outputs, and all digital inputs can accept either current-sinking or current-sourcing industrial inputs (bidirectional inputs) from sensors and switches in industrial, process, and building automation applications. For stable operation in industrial environments, each input of the CA-IS398x with parallel outputs incorporates a glitch and debounce filter with a fixed delay time; the CA-IS3980S features a programmable debounce filter, allowing flexible debouncing and filtering of sensor outputs based on application requirements. Furthermore, for systems with more than eight sensor inputs, the CA-IS3980S supports daisy-chaining of multiple devices, enabling up to 128 inputs to share a single isolated SPI interface. CA-IS398x series devices operate over a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and are available in a 20-pin SSOP package.
