The ISO7220x and ISO7221x series devices are dual-channel digital isolators. To facilitate PCB layout, the channels have the same direction in the ISO7220x and opposite directions in the ISO7221x. These devices feature logic input and output buffers, which are isolated by a silicon dioxide (SiO₂) insulating gate, providing 4000Vₚₖ. When used with an isolated power supply, these devices can block high voltages and isolate the ground, preventing noise currents on the data bus or other circuits from entering the local ground or causing interference or damage to sensitive circuits. The binary input signal is conditioned and converted into a balanced signal, which is then differentially transmitted through the capacitive isolation layer. Across this isolation layer, the differential comparator can receive logic transition information and then set or reset the flip-flop and output circuit accordingly. The circuit will send periodic update pulses across the isolation layer to ensure normal DC level output. If this DC update pulse is not received every 4μs, it is assumed that the input is not powered or not actively driven, and the fail-safe circuit will drive the output to a logic high state. The low capacitance value and the resulting time constant enable high-speed operation, with a signal transmission rate ranging from 0Mbps (DC) to 150Mbps (The signal transmission rate on the line is the number of voltage transitions per second, expressed in the unit bps). Devices in options A, B, and C have TTL input thresholds and noise filters on the inputs to prevent transient pulses from being transmitted to the device outputs. Devices in option M have a CMOS VCC/2 input threshold, no input noise filter, and additional propagation delay. The ISO7220x and ISO7221x series devices require two 2.8V (grade C), 3.3V, 5V power supplies, or any combination of these power supplies. When powered by a 2.8V or 3.3V power supply, all inputs can withstand 5V, and all outputs are 4mA CMOS. The ISO7220x and ISO7221x series devices operate in an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
