DS28E10 combines secure challenge-response authentication based on the SHA-1 algorithm specified in FIPS 180-3 with 224-bit one-time programmable user EPROM in a single chip. Once written, the memory is automatically write-protected. In addition, each device has a guaranteed unique 64-bit ROM identification number (ROM ID) that is factory-programmed into the chip. Memory write operations are performed 4 bytes at a time. Secure, low-cost factory programming services are available to pre-program device data, including SHA-1 secure data components. The device communicates via a single-contact 1-Wire bus. Communication follows the standard 1-Wire protocol, with the ROM ID serving as the node address in multi-device 1-Wire networks.
DS28E10 integrates a 512-bit SHA-1 engine, secure data, 224-bit OTP EPROM, and 64-bit ROM ID in a single chip. Data is transmitted serially via the 1-Wire protocol, requiring only one data line and one ground line. In addition to serving as a unique data value in cryptographic SHA-1 computations, the device's 64-bit ROM ID can be used for electronic identification of devices using the DS28E10. In multi-drop 1-Wire network environments where multiple devices share a single 1-Wire bus and operate independently, the ROM ID can also serve as a node address.
