Introduction

The AN2720SC provides a single-chip solution for networking two or more computers via USB ports. In a USB system, the PC acts as the host, initiating all USB communications. USB devices act as slaves, responding to host requests. Since a host cannot communicate with another host, connecting two PCs together with a simple USB cable is inherently not feasible. This chip overcomes the incompatibility of such peer-to-peer connections by providing each PC with a USB device. Two independent Serial Interface Engines exchange data through a 2 KB FIFO. Thus, USB data sent by one computer can be made available to the other computer through this chip. The connection is full-duplex, and data can be transmitted in both directions simultaneously.
