Introduction

The 5520 series monolithic sense amplifiers are designed for high-speed memory systems. These sense amplifiers detect bipolar differential input signals from memory and provide interface circuitry between the memory and logic sections. Low-level pulses originating from memory are converted to logic levels compatible with standard TTL and DTL circuits. These sense amplifiers feature multiple differential input preamplifiers along with common strobe and output circuits, significantly reducing the circuitry required to implement the sense function. The unique circuit design ensures inherent stability of input threshold levels over a wide range of supply voltages and temperatures. Independent strobing of the dual sense input channels provides maximum versatility and allows sensing when the signal-to-noise ratio is at its peak. The strobe and gate inputs, as well as the outputs, are compatible with standard TTL and DTL digital logic circuits. The SN5520 and SN5521 circuits can be used to perform flip-flop or register functions in response to sense and strobe input conditions. The SN5522 and SN5523 circuits feature high fan-out, single-ended, open-collector output stages. In addition, they can be used to expand the inputs of SN5520 or SN5521 circuits or to perform wired-AND functions. The SN5524 and SN5525 circuits provide independent dual-channel sensing with separate outputs. The SN55234 and SN55235 are similar but feature inverted outputs and internal compensation. The SN55232 and SN55233 are identical to the SN55234 and SN55235, respectively, except that their output gates have open-collector outputs. The SN5528 and SN5529 circuits are identical to the SN5524 and SN5525, respectively, except that the output of each preamplifier is available as a test point. The SN55238 and SN55239 are similar to the SN5528 and SN5529, respectively, but feature inverted outputs and internal compensation. The 5520 series sense amplifiers are available in ceramic DIP J packages, rated for the full temperature range of -55°C to 125°C. Pin assignments and functions are identical to those of the corresponding 7520 series circuits.
