Introduction

MAX22196 is an industrial octal digital input device that converts eight industrial 24V or TTL-level inputs to logic-level outputs. The device features a serial interface that allows configuration and serialized data readback via SPI. Input channels are individually configurable as current sink (Type P) or current source (Type N) inputs. A current limiter on each digital input minimizes power consumption while ensuring compliance with IEC 61131-2. Using a single current-setting resistor, inputs are individually configurable as Type 1/3, Type 2, TTL, or HTL (high-impedance 24V level). The current sink or source function can be individually disabled. Each input channel includes a programmable glitch/debounce filter, and each input channel has an optional 16-bit down counter. The MAX22196 can be powered from an 8V to 36V field supply for sink/source operation and integrates a 5V linear regulator capable of supplying up to 20mA of load current.
