Introduction

The True Digital Audio Amplifier (TDAA) represents a new paradigm in digital audio. A TDAA system consists of the TAS5001 PCM-to-PWM modulator device and the TAS5100 PWM power output device. The system accepts a serial PCM digital audio stream and converts it to a 3.3-V PWM audio stream (TAS5001). The TAS5100 device then provides a large-signal PWM output. This digital PWM signal is subsequently demodulated to deliver power output for driving speakers. This patented technology provides low-cost, high-quality, high-efficiency digital audio suited for the many audio systems developed for the digital age. The TAS5001 is an innovative, cost-effective, high-performance 24-bit stereo PCM-to-PWM modulator based on Equibit™ technology. It offers multiple serial input options, including right-justified (16-, 20-, or 24-bit), IIS (16-, 20-, or 24-bit), left-justified (16-bit), and DSP (16-bit) data formats. It is fully compatible with AES standard sample rates of 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, and 96 kHz. The TAS5001 also provides de-emphasis functionality for 44.1-kHz and 48-kHz sample rates.
