Introduction

Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV) are nonlinear resistive components with zinc oxide (ZnO) as the primary material. Their resistance is highly sensitive to applied voltage: below the threshold voltage, resistance is extremely high with minimal current flow, acting like a closed valve; once voltage exceeds the threshold, resistance drops sharply and current surges, acting like an open valve. This characteristic enables suppression of abnormal overvoltage events in circuits, protecting them from overvoltage damage. MOVs are widely used in photovoltaic systems, telecommunications, surge protectors, power supplies, and outlets to clamp transient overvoltage and absorb surge energy. These varistors feature a maximum peak current of (0.75~70) kA, maximum continuous operating voltage of (14~750) VAC, safety certifications including UL, cUL, TUV, and CQC, and comply with RoHS and REACH requirements.
