Introduction

A varistor is a device with a voltage-current characteristic that supports rapid current flow under certain voltage conditions. The function of a varistor is to protect electronic components in a circuit from overvoltage. Connected in parallel within the circuit, the varistor provides protection by clamping pulse voltages within its clamping voltage Vc when pulses are applied to the circuit. Due to its ability to absorb abnormal voltage and current pulses, a varistor can protect electronic components with very high efficiency.
