Introduction

A gas discharge tube is a single-gap or multi-gap switch-type protective device formed by high-temperature sealing, in which discharge media such as inert gas or gas mixtures are filled at specific ratios within a space enclosed by metal electrodes and metallized ceramics. When the protected circuit or equipment is subjected to surge stress, the discharge tube transitions from a high-impedance state to a low-impedance state, diverting surge energy to ground, reducing the residual voltage across the circuit, and thereby protecting equipment circuits and personnel from transient overvoltage hazards.
