Introduction

Gas discharge tubes are classic components used to protect telecommunications equipment. For IT and telecommunications systems with high-performance but sensitive electronic circuits, protection using surge arresters is critical. The 1812 series gas discharge tubes offer high surge ratings in a miniature package, designed for SMT on PCBs, with a compact footprint of 4.5×3.2×2.7mm. Low insertion loss makes them well-suited for broadband equipment applications. Their capacitance does not vary with voltage, causing no operational issues in ADSL2+ applications where capacitance variation between Tip and Ring is undesirable. These devices are extremely robust, capable of shunting 500A pulses in the miniature 1812 package without damage.
