Introduction

The Broadcom AEAT-8800-Q24 is an angular magnetic rotary sensor that provides precise angle measurement over a full 360-degree rotation range. It is a precision system incorporating integrated Hall sensor elements with sophisticated analog and digital signal processing in a single device. A simple two-pole magnet, aligned with the device center, generates the necessary magnetic field through vertical rotation. The AEAT-8800-Q24 is a versatile solution whose robust architecture supports a wide range of applications, capable of measuring and providing both absolute and incremental signals. Absolute angle measurement delivers an instantaneous indication of the magnet's angular position, with user-selectable resolution that can be one-time programmed to 10-bit, 12-bit, 14-bit, or 16-bit. Once selected, the position data is represented digitally and can be read via the standard 3-wire SSI communication protocol. If desired, users may also opt to receive absolute angular position as a PWM-encoded output signal. Incremental position is indicated via ABI and UVW signals; the counts per revolution (CPR) of the ABI signal is user-configurable to 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, or 4096, while the UVW commutation signal supports 1 to 8 pole pairs (2 to 16 poles). An internal voltage regulator allows the AEAT-8800-Q24 to operate from either a 3.3V or 5V supply.
